USB Flylight
By: Jason Jaskey

Looking to shed some light on a simple but common problem regarding computer gaming? I know that when I am in the heat of battle at a LAN party playing Urban Terror, nothing is worse than wasting valuable time fumbling for the bandage key in near-darkness. As a result, I bleed to death and the opponent scores a kill. Cheap! Well, playing in the dark is now a thing of the past…

Introducing the USB FlyLight, from Kensington. This product almost seems as though it should have been invented a few years ago, that’s how helpful and innovative I think this product is. Coming in either black or platinum, the Flylight simply plugs into an available USB port on your computer and illuminates your keyboard with either soft blue or red focused light from its low-intensity and long lasting LED. Originally designed for laptop use, you can use the Flylight to illuminate what you need to at home or at LAN parties, especially if your keyboard has onboard USB ports in which you can plug the light into.

With a flexible yet stiff neck, the Flylight stays where you position it and only uses about 90 seconds of power per every hour in your laptop battery. Of course, this is not a concern on your desktop. Just plug in and go, instant light with no switches or buttons and comes with a 5-year warranty. Very well justified for its meager price of $19.99, I couldn’t resist picking one up at a local Best Buy.

I honestly cannot find anything to complain about regarding the Flylight and award it a score of 10 out of 10. Just imagine all the illumination possibilities you can dream up with your unused USB ports! Also, be sure to check out our soon to be released short, covering another USB innovation from Kensington: the Flyfan.
